The Spaces

Seven settings across five acres, from an open lawn above the water to a ballroom that was once a riding arena. Each was built or transformed from genuinely salvaged materials, not faux-rustic decor.

A ledger of rescued materials

Built from the Salvaged

Flowing Lake has a history going back to the early logging days, when logs were floated across the lake to the mill on Panther Lake. Much of that history has been rescued and rebuilt into the property itself.

  • Douglas fir logs

    1909 Fobes Hill dairy barn

One hundred years old and hand-sawn, now the walls of the Groom's Cabin.

  • 'Peach Bottom' slate

    1888 Kinnear mansion, Seattle

A 130-year-old Pennsylvania slate roof, lifted from a vanished Seattle mansion.

  • Leaded stained glass

    100-year-old English farm house

Windows that crossed an ocean before finding their way to the lake.

  • Boathouse beams

    1940 Wonderland Park boathouse

From the lake itself - the boathouse that once rented rowboats for two dollars a day.

  • Salvaged rowboats

    Wonderland Park Resort

Several of the original wooden Wonderland Park rowboats, restored and on display.

  • Barn siding & lath

Snohomish Valley & 1926 West Seattle

White-washed chipped siding and interior lath, rebuilt into the bar.

How it began

Our Story

The property that would become Green Gates was once a modest equestrian estate on Flowing Lake, near the historic town of Snohomish. The owners bought it after falling in love with the old barns and the lake, with no real aspirations of becoming a wedding venue.

When their daughter's best friend asked them to host her wedding, they gladly agreed - and the rest, as they say, is history. The original three-stall barn became the Bridal Cottage; the covered riding arena became the ballroom.

Flowing Lake carries its own history too. In the early logging days, logs were floated across the water to the mill on nearby Panther Lake, and wooden row boats could be rented at the Wonderland Park Resort for two dollars a day. Several of those original rowboats have been salvaged and are now on display at Green Gates.
